Election special: soap is the word

Issue No.8, April 18, 2006

Broadway Market is hosting a soapbox special on Saturday, April 22 from 11.30 to 3.30. Candidates for Queensbridge and neighbouring wards are welcome (as long as they’re nice). So are the egotists who aspire to be mayor of our great borough.

These are the ground rules laid down by Baroness Bredwell, manager of the Saturday market on Broadway, and endorsed by her grateful subjects:

Rules

• You may bring helpers, but strictly no supporters club.
• We can provide you with a gazebo or stall if you wish (one day’s notice please).
• Party literature is compulsory.
• You may decorate and dress your own stall as extravagantly as you wish.
• You must wear silly hats.
• You are encouraged to dress up – town criers are good. You may paint your face and wear a silly mask if you so wish.
• You will be sweet, polite and well mannered to the opposition at all times. You will smile.
• At no time will anyone be mean or nasty to another party or candidate. Anyone found doing so will be put in the stocks and have wet sponges thrown at them (or Wratten tomatoes).
• You may bring along entertainment - music or musicians - or you may prefer to play with yourself.
• Tea and coffee will be provided by BMTRA. Those who behave well may get cake.
